Thoughts on this UN Classico blue grand feu enamel watch?

Nov 29, 2014,04:12 AM

I saw this recently at an AD and was impressed with the grand feu blue enamel dial!

The movement is so so (ETA I believe) but the case size and design and lugs shapes are very nice and suits my small wrist. Case is steel and great value!
The blue dial is to die for!! I really love it! Perfect under a loupe too.
The date is my key hesitation. I'm ok with eta movement and the price of this piece is really attractive for a watch with such a beatiful grand feu enamel dial.

What do you guys think of this watch? Yes or no for me? smile

Also is the guilloche engine turned guilloche?
Any advice will be much appreciated!

Cheers
Robin

To be honest, some pics you took years ago (I copy them here again) really brings up the beauty of the blue dial!! Seeing your pics poison me on this watch even more! Cheers Robin Pic by Fx Pic by Fx ...

I was expecting you to say that lol!

On date on dials that is... cheers robin

I only can agree...

as I saw this one in Paris lately, even if it's with a different dial: The shapes of the different elements and the dial are superb. The movement as you say is "so so"... The blue seems gorgeous. Cheers, Mark

Yes Mark I remember your post

Another enamel dial Classico that looks great and even more classical. Let us know if you get it eventually Cheers Robin

Tempted more than once

 By: rnaden : November 29th, 2014-07:24
but passed on it, even though as you've said, the blue is superb...I just couldn't see how often I would wear it as the beauty and the way it plays with light is also its setback for a versatile wear. And the date...does it have to be there? And in a whit...

Definitely agree on the date window Richard

For the blue dial, which is a bit flamboyant I know, I like it enough that I believe I can wear it often :) Cheers Robin

Also tempted.

I agree with Richard N. More than once was I tempted with this beauty. The price is right and it's a looker. I have a thing for blue-dialed pieces. However, I too wonder how often I would wear it when up against others in my collection. Have you considere...

Very blue, a little too flashy for me. If you don't' have a blue and

The price is right for you, why not? I will prefer the date at 6 o'clock position. Raymond

Thanks Raymond for your feedback

I have a Patek nautilus 5712 in grey-blue but it's not a blue like this one for the more fun days. But agree if I have the PP already maybe I don't need another blue dial :) Although this is in enamel and looks so nice!! Arghhhh... Tough to decide :) Chee...

Sorry to say that your pictures just don't do the dial justice.

Not your fault, it is just that that dial can only be seen in the metal to be truly appreciated. It is stunning. I have admired it from afar and from close. I too had been tempted and have mercilessly hinted to my wife that I would like that watch (dare I...

Thanks Mitch for your note!

Indeed I do like the dial and like you, I have the same thoughts on whether it can be a tad flashy or not. But with all my serious looking watches, this one can be a nice one to have when I want to have a fun evening for eg. Alot of my collector friends a...

Robin, should you come to my house, you might see art or a watch and you might

Well said Mitch!

I will do as you suggest. Will mull over this for awhile and rely on my own thoughts and not from my friends :) Cheers Robin

I suspect we both have houses full of "what were you thinking" opportunities

which our wives seem somehow to live with (if not quietly enjoy). Thanks for the encouraging words to other collectors. Cheers, Cazalea ...

True but when it comes to my wife, I have learned that the words "I don't like it" does

end the conversation. We do have one painting that I liked and my wife didn't - the painting is now squirrelled away in the garage not seeing the light of day. "I like it" - it's a go "It's okay" - a point of negotation "I don't like it" - conversation ov...

I like the way you've put it! LOL! I will agree with you, and dare I say this transcends geographies, languages and cultures!

Striking appearance on this one.

 By: MichaelC : December 1st, 2014-08:00
I definitely agree the date spoils what could have been even more spectacular. However, I'm not sure it is a complete deal breaker. You are still getting a superb and unique dial. If it comes at a great price, perhaps you can accept that trait? I have enj...

Good reminder my friend

Actually no watch (or very very few of them) is perfect on all accounts I'm getting over the date window slowly :) The blue dial is just one to die for! :) Cheers Robin

The guilloche UN blue enamel dial looks outstanding in the photo !! In the metal, it must

be stunning !! Robin, I now realize and understand that you prefer mono-color enamel dials, just like the one on your Montblanc Villeret. Me, I am the opposite and need motifs on enamel, as you might have already gathered. Hard for me to advice whether yo...

Haha thanks Gordon!

You are always spreading the enamel poison lol! Will take more time to decide. The blue dial is a killer for sure Cheers Robin

The dial

is a YES IMHO, but I feel it grabs to much attention away from other aspects of the watch. If you like attention, then that is the perfect selection :)
