A brief glimpse on what UN might have in store for us ...

Please note, that this depiction is but a draft submitted for a patent. It is common to file patents in a rough development state, and many aspects can be subject to changes in later states. Many patents even never see their realisation at all.

For those of us interested in astronomical watch displays, Ludwig oechslin has again invented something really special and fascinating:

This watch dial, consisting of independent, concentric rings and disks (similar to the Trilogy watches), not only shows the accurate phase of the moon, which depends on the relative positions of the moon, sun and even the observer's position on Earth itself. Additionally, it allows at least a rough estimation on the tides on all oceans, since these also depend on the positions of Earth, Sun and Moon relative to each other.

Here, some examples are given.

Don't ask me how it works, as I had not yet the time to read through all the (French) material. Since it is a very recent patent (February 2004), we might have to wait for a long time until we see it in an actual watch. Given Dr. Oechslin's personal tradition of inventing mechanics that cannot be realized without some new material technologies, it might even be possible that the display cannot be realized at all. We'll see.

With best regards,
Marcus

Does anyone have any ideas as to when we might see this watch?
