In the flesh,Novelties '07, pt. 4: Beautiful Marine Chronometers

A year ago, Ulysse Nardin celebrated its 150th anniversary - aside other novelties - with an extremely beautiful Marine Chronometer, featuring an enamel dial and a slightly enlargened case, with 43mm diameter. The downside was, only 320 people could buy it, since it was limited to 160 pieces each in pink gold and platinum.

Now the larger Marine Chronometer (how is it called? The "smaller" one already was the "Maxi". So maybe the 43mm version will be the "Mega-Maxi"?) is available in an unlimited stainless steel variant. The larger case diameter with the increased dial space now permits classic-looking Roman numerals with Super Luminova - which looks really attractive!

Also looking good is the metallic chapter ring around the power reserve.

However, the "Marcus' Pick - UN 2007" award goes to another watch: This gorgeous-looking Maxi Marine Chronometer in dark brown:

Note the dial structure in bright light (direct flashlight in this case)

Call it as you want: coffee brown, mocca brown (espresso brown, for the fans of Italian coffee!), or simply: dark brown. Regardless of this, the colour is absolutely wonderful!! The dial is stamped with a structure similar to that of carbon fibres, and then covered with several layers of a translucent, dark brown lacquer. In dim lighting, the structure under the lacquer disappears, you only see the colour. But in bright light, the structure starts to shine - simply marvelous!

See the difference: This is what the watch looks like in dim light

Yummy!

Marcus
